Royal Mail Miniature sheet of 1st class Beatles stamps showing memorabilia - guitar, lunchbox, 45rpm single, tea tray.

Miniature sheet of 4 x 1st class stamps (conventionally gummed) showing Beatles Memorabilia:
(a) toy guitar; (b) lunchbox;
(c) 45rpm single; (d) tea tray.

Other memorabilia are shown on the stamps (mainly badges) and sheet margins.

One of the purposes of the stamp programme is to celebrate the British contribution to the world and the British way of life. In the field of popular culture there are fewer more striking examples of what Britain has given the world than The Beatles. Whilst it is 50 years since an early meeting and the opening of the Cavern Club, customer research indicated that this subject was so universal that it did not need an anniversary for Royal Mail to commemorate the greatest band in pop history.

The miniature sheet comprises of four 1st Class stamps featuring photography of Beatles memorabilia from the collection of Pete Nash.
The presentation pack contains all six self-adhesive stamps and the miniature sheet. Inside Mojo editor Phil Alexander tells the story of the Beatles from that first meeting back in 1957 to the break up in 1970. Designed by johnson banks (who also designed the free-form Fun Fruit & Veg stamps) the pack is illustrated with Beatles memorabilia from the collection of Pete Nash. The miniature sheet is housed in its own specially designed separate carrier.
Flip over the First Day Cover envelope to see the back of the album sleeve on the top of each pile, then pull out the filler card to discover the vinyl records inside. On the filler card Phil Alexander explains why the legacy of the Fab Four lives on. The same First Day Cover envelope and filler card will be used for the miniature sheet.

Technical details:

The stamps and miniature sheet were designed by Johnson Banks using photography by Kevin Summers, and are printed by Walsall Security Printers. The normal sheet stamps are a maximum of 35 x 33mm and are self-adhesive in gravure. Each value is printed in sheets of 30 stamps, 2 of each design. Also available are double-pane sheets of 60. The stamps would be regarded as se-tenant, except that they are not attached one to another! Click here to see the sheet format.
The miniature sheet (116x90mm) is printed by lithography with water-activated gum.
