About the drivers

Sir Stirling Moss
A versatile driver who also competed and won in Formula 2 and 3 as well as rallying, sports and touring cars. Of 366 races he finished he won 222. Won the British Racing Drivers Club Gold star ten times.

Graham Hill
The only driver to win the "Triple Crown" of the Indianapolis 500, the 24 hours Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix, Hill was originally a mechanic for Team Lotus. Convincing Lotus he was the man for the job he made his racing debut at the age of 29. He was killed in a plane crash in 1975. Hill was also a helicopter pilot, a role he also played in the 1974 film adaptation of Alistair Maclean's Caravan to Vaccares.

Jackie Stewart
Three time World Champion Stewart, was also responsible for many improvements in motor racing safety at a time when drivers were frequently injured or even killed.

Jim Clark
By the time Jim Clark was killed, when his car crashed in a race at Hockenheim Germany, he had won 25 Grand Prixs, the Indy 500 in the United States and been world champion twice. He was only 32 years old when he died.

James Hunt
Despite earning a reputation as "Hunt the Shunt" in Formula 3 and 2, James Hunt cut his Formula 1 teeth driving for the privately funded Hesketh team before taking over from Emerson Fittipaldi at McClaren in 1976. Seven exciting and controversial wins that season clinched the title from Niki Lauda by one point.

Nigel Mansell
After finishing second in the World Championships when driving for Williams in 1986, 1987 and 1991, Nigel Mansell finally got his hands on the trophy in 1992 when he won nine races. Mansell went on to win the CART series in the United States.
